Mercury Air Cargo Strikes Deal with Russian Carrier AirBridge Cargo

Mercury Air Cargo has entered into a handling agreement contract with AirBridge Cargo, a division of Russian airline Volga-Dnepr. A legacy freighter carrier based out of Moscow, AirBridge Cargo (ABC) is the largest cargo airline in Russia and services mostly Europe and Asia.

ABC historically operated in two airports in the United States, one in Chicago and the other in Dallas, and on March 29th it began operations in Los Angeles as well. The flights will route from Moscow via Shanghai to LAX, where Mercury Air Cargo will be providing all of ABC's cargo handling needs. The flights will then head to Chicago and Amsterdam before finally returning to Moscow. With a strong import market out of Asia for the United States and strong export market to Northern Europe, this busy route will bring millions of kilos of international cargo through LAX.

This new agreement represents a significant opportunity for Mercury Air Cargo, as it will be processing an additional million kilos of cargo at LAX every month. John E. Peery, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of MAC, believes that ABC chose the company for this important contract because of Mercury's exceptional reputation, its positive responsiveness to ABC's specific requirements, and the presence of a facility that fits its present and future needs.

Providing for an international carrier, particularly a Russian one, allows Mercury Air Cargo to broaden its base and diversify its reach. "Diversification is important to us in our growth as a company. We've been heavily based with Asian carriers, so it's significant that we're now diversifying our portfolio with a well established European carrier," says Peery.
